RIP Che Guevara T-Shirt

Che Guevara T-Shirt is dead, long live the dead... until we get so well known we're asked to play All Tomorrow's Parties but don't because we haven't checked [email protected] in years... besides which apparently there's already another band out there with our name playing covers in England..

I didn't realize we'd broken up for years and I was still holding onto the name, hiring different members and playing shows with the only 'remaining' members being me and drummer John Olander. But it's clear now that the album we made in 2018 was our last. We had many members over the years, but the core was always me and Matt H. (matth) (John was with us over 5 years which is longer than anyone other than me and Matth but he was late to the party). When matth left the band I shouldve taken the hint.

In any case we were around for over 10 years writing and recording 7 albums and playing to empty clubs with the exception of the one time we played Thundersnow, when there were around 50 people in the audience all of whom enjoyed us enough to keep watching (in Albany, most times even the other bands that were playing would walk out on us) and some of whom even picked up our album. Since we were never appreciated (and I'm not just saying that or being humble, literally no one liked us and people that said they did would say things like 'i like che guevara too -- i had that rage against the machine t-shirt!' or 'i loved you guys when I saw you at Low Beat and No Fun' -- however we were such a 'non-draw' that clubs like those with a capacity of 100+ wouldn't book us.. people also called me 'mr. che guevara' sometimes to which i'd reply 'ernesto to my friends'.. our name was well know but not our band nor our music) in our hometown of Albany, New York, this is probably my last chance to send the last word out somewhere else.

If you like it, great. Everything on NML records is on the website for free and anything NML has released on bandcamp can be downloaded there for free as well. If not, you can't say I didn't warn you.

Wow, this was not much of a self promotion was it? Call it New York cynicism. Or whatever you want it doesn't matter now.

-k.

I'd have loved too; we played one gig in Hudson on a mini tour with the Empire State Troopers. The whole time we were around I tried to get gigs in New Paltz, Poughkeepsie, and my hometown of Nyack to no avail. I was just bad at booking I guess; it's all about getting the right person on the phone at the right time and lying about whether you draw, whether you have a hot female lead singer, etc...

I have a new band based in Albany; if you're still interested in playing together/doing a swap send me an e-mail [email protected]. We can easily get gigs in Troy (Albany is a hole right now; there isn't a single venue around for loud live original bands).
