I finally watched this tonight (available on mubi).

Absolutely fucking brilliant. Hilarious, moving and highly original. And they actually showed innovative cinematography that could probably only be achieved in a game.

I was sad they didn't show the entire play!

I finally watched the Sly doc. Beautiful. I was put off by that frenetic opening style (much like the Velvets doc, that hyper-fast cutting between 20 different talking heads speaking the individual words of a sentence and too much unnecessary found footage), but it quickly settled into a groove. Really liked how it wouldn't let loose of the "Black genius in America" premise without being too heavy-handed. Made me think of Kanye a lot. I wish I could watch it with my kid, who is a fan, but it would still be too intense...someday.

Likewise...Much positive to say about it: easy to get behind the film's social commentary, Michael B Jordan was acting his ass off, and the film looked stunning. The writing was a little jumbled at times and Coogler, who seems like a cool dude, is just a tad bit on the populist side of Hollywood for my taste. Glad I went and that it's doing well at the box office.
