I made it to the softball game in the first episode, and bailed after watching Culkin's character's behavior. I did watch the episode when ***** dies, because I had a professional interest in how they would handle it. But I realized from jump that I would not find watching those assholes enjoyable in any way.

The Rehearsal season 2 is out on Max. If you haven't seen the first, you are really missing something unique and special. The second season ups the ante. It's like piercing the 4th, 5th, and 6th wall. Brilliant in so many ways. Funny, without obvious jokes. You're always on your toes to consider what is real and what isn't. And the subject tangents always circle back in interesting ways. Nathan Fielder is a fucking genius.

The only other shows that come close to this level of brilliancy that I can think of is Andy Daly's version of The Review (Paramount+) that will have you questioning whether or not you should eat pancakes and a fake reality show called Jury Duty (Prime Video) which may have you weeping tears at the end and give you hope for humanity.

I'm a big fan. This season hasn't been big on laughs yet (the premise is actually a pretty valid point, unlike so many of his past setups) but 2 things that got me in the latest episode 1. reconstructing that fuckin' pub inside of the fake airport and 2. the pilot who's been banned from every dating app as well as Instagram.

The clown. It's the most poignant visual with is assessment of his own position and also hilarious without even trying to be funny. The most ingenious joke that is not obvious while using a symbol of comedy. He's doing psychoanalysis, searching for a joke, while trying to do something to help society.

Also, that airport restaurant looks very familiar. Season 1, with the guy who was trying to talk to his friend that he has trivia nights with about his big lie. I think they took that set apart for the pub.

Spoiler alert: EP 2 It's just amazing watching him discover what is successful in human emotion. Of course, when he just repeats what that female pilot was saying, he sounds insincere, because he talks deadpan with a blank face. Just saying words isn't enough. He tries out trying to be sincere with the 15 year old girl for the music contest and tells her that her being there already makes her a star. It's not trying to be funny, it is sincere and the truth. But the joke, if there is one, is the number he gets in the ballot box for his rating as a judge by the girl.

Yep, same one! They went way over the top recreating that dive bar for Season 1, so it's very funny that they kept the stuff and reused it in the fake airport. I hope future seasons just keep working in old props for the sheer absurdity of it.
