A real pain
Pretty damn good - Mcaulkin is a good actor and I loved the character he played, Eisenberg good as usual
Feel I’m on a good run lately with this, Anora, and just rewatched ‘In the name of the father’ (fucking essential film)… what next?

912"Half Nelson" - pre-superstardom Ryan Gosling plays a cool guy history teacher in an inner-city school who's got a drug problem. A student catches him using.
Really great script that doesn't fall into the white saviour schtick as they often do. Sad but touching. Anthony Mackie also rocks it as a somewhat ambiguously motivated drug dealer.
Totally worth a watch.

913The YouTube algorithm recommended to me this made-for TV film from 1983 about The Day After a US-Soviet nuclear war.
Hmm. I guess this is what I’m doing tonight.

914This created quite the hubub on its release. Major watching event. Terrified the fuck out of everyone. Cadet Mahoney is in it.jfv wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 8:24 pm The YouTube algorithm recommended to me this made-for TV film from 1983 about The Day After a US-Soviet nuclear war.

915For a Jason Robards post-apocalytpic double feature check A Boy and His Dog after The Day After.

916The film A Most Violent Year dovetails in with the New York vibe of Anora pretty well.Iancee wrote: Sat May 10, 2025 9:59 pm A real pain

917The way it went from “Yay America! So wholesome!” to what it ended up being was… effective.rsmurphy wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 8:35 pm This created quite the hubub on its release. Major watching event. Terrified the fuck out of everyone. Cadet Mahoney is in it.
I’m gonna go watch some bird videos now to cheer me up.

919Do you prefer Brian Cox's Hannibal Lecter to Anthony Hopkins'? I know some people do.

Re: Movies you have watched thread.
920No, though he does well...and did it first. It's actually funny that with all the stylized acting, Cox as Lecktor (I don't know why they went with an alternate spelling) plays it straight. It's necessary though as he's not the main focus of the story and this movie really couldn't sustain Hopkins's scenery chewing approach.
