My transport controller stopped working. I rebound all the keys back to the transport, but I couldn't get recording to stop. Eventually, I discovered that SHIFT+CMD+R stops recording. Even though I had programmed with the MIDI controller the Transport Record/Stop toggle to be the record button on the controller, it still wouldn't work. I eventually found the solution. In the Actions panel, on the far right side there's a dropdown for "Section" which you will see "Main" selected. If you switch that to "Alternate Recording", you can then add all new commands to whatever action while Reaper is recording. So, choosing Transport Record/Stop toggle, I added the same MIDI button and now it works.

I just want to say how stupid and unintuitive this is. If you use a toggle, one would expect it to toggle. Why anyone would want to remap their keys when Reaper is in record mode, I don't understand. If nothing is selected in Alternate Recording, I would expect the default to happen.

This is weird and I've never had to do that. Toggle has always just worked. I stopped using my midi controller transport buttons a long time ago though and now use a xencelabs quick keys. I have some marker commands, rec, undo, track up/down and shuttle programed on it. It's like a coll little wireless remote for reaper now. Stream deck is also better than any midi solution I've tried.

I have my audio set up with a focusrite scarlette. Reaper is set to use this as the audio source. I have a midi keyboard, however in the last couple of times I've loaded it, I follow the normal steps - new track, arm track, choose VST plug in, and normally I would just plug the back of the scarlette into an amp and could play drums, synth, etc - sound went to that amp no problem.

Now, when I load anything, I get nothing when using the keyboard, and the main synth I use says " audio output unavailable." I can't get anything to work like it was before.

Have tried new focusrite drivers, no luck. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for the keyboard, no luck. Have defaulted the focusrite to factory settings, no luck.

Audio has always been set to ASIO. If I switch it to waveout, and selct my speakers as the output, it works, but then it won't go thru the focusrite headphones jack. If I switch that setting to use the focusrite, then sound comes into reaper, but nothing out of the focusrite.

Ideas? Do I need to get a new interface and see if that's the problem?
No solution for you but I have replaced USB ports on 2i2s a couple times for people - depending on how output works if it's just one pin gone, MAYBE it will still be picked up by the driver and just not send. I've accidently muted things in the focusrite software, but resetting to factory should've covered you there

Do you have monitoring turned on for the input your VST synth is inserted and the midi controller set as the recording input for that track? I know this is intro level question but I've forgot it too.

Yeah I did check that monitor was on - I think TDP might be correct in that it's a physical comms issue with the scarlette. L1 as we network dorks say. I tried using the scarlett with ableton and I'm getting the same weirdo reactions. Different cables, different ports, different app, same failures.

I bought it at a pawn shop many years ago for nothing. I hate making garbage, but this thing might be kaput. I'm going to try it on a different machine and see what happens.

If you want to try, assuming it's not a newer USB-C, here's the port you want. Very easy to replace. Hardest part was getting the boards out, there's these clips on the inside - friendly youtube stranger made a decent video for getting at the clips.

It's a USB-c.

I tried the INT on another machine, same problems. Grabbed a super old interface, installed it, everything worked as expected.

Reason for outage: Hardware Failure
Vendor: Focusrite

Curser keys but you have to click into categories and within the categories first.

Anyone know a plugin or extension for Reaper for doing like, audio quality control? There are audio measurement devices (Audio Precision) that are great but for some simple things (are pickups balanced) are just complete overkill, and I still have to develop a bit with those too - I need to log if something happened as well.

I was hoping I could just use like a Focusrite and find a plugin that could data midi as a TCP client, or maybe just a text file. Then I can go playing sample > volume > analysis .

hell maybe I just measure output RMS and call it a day
