Ok, I got the only helpful piece of tech information ever given on Reddit and thought it was my duty to share here:

If you need a keyboard stand for the Yamaha Reface series, look for the Playstation 3 Rockband Keyboard Stand. It fits perfectly and is at least on par with the import Guitar Center crap, probably better - I have it sitting next to a couple of ni¢e K&M stands and it’s not as stout ofc, but it doesn’t feel like a hollow toy either.

Would still look elsewhere if you plan to do much gigging, but for around the house you can’t do better for $20-$30.

Line 6 HX One. This fucker is legit. Got it used and it came with a replacement backplate with a dual footswitch on it. I find the effects both sound better than the Plethora as well as are less complicated to tweak. Already have a couple basic presets whipped up, including a tape-style vibrato, harmonizer, harmonic and regular tremolo, and a feedbacker. Looking forward to doing more when I get a couple extra patch cables to do a pre and post-send setup.

Alas, the delay thing I wanted to do with a “swell” mode a la the RE-20 pedal where the delay speed and feedback ramps up doesn’t work quite how I’d like—it’ll totally ramp up when the time is set to Tap Sync but it doesn’t have the smooth pitch effect unless it’s set to millisecond mode. Oh well. The Flashback II will stay where it is.

A bit more annoying is that you can’t have the second footswitch assigned to either Tap or Flux per preset—you have to either manually change it by holding down that button, or dedicate one of the aux switches to Tap or Flux, and right now I prefer to have it set solely to switch presets.

Nevertheless this thing’s a keeper.

Hey, cool. I made at least two of those models!

Write up your concerns in an email if you like. Send it ti badrian@line6.com. I'll forward it to the product owner. There's always a chance this will get a firmware update.

I’d recommend anyone on a budget wanting a Neumann-style FET condensor try the Serrano 87 before getting anything else unless you are after a FET 47, which I would recommend the AT4047. I can’t imagine a lot of condensors doing better than the Serrano for $600 new, and I couldn’t find one used though they seem to do well on forums, which is usually a good sign. I still need to compare it next to a Warbler Mk I and AT4047, but I use those fairly often as it is, so it’ll happen eventually.

The Serrano came in when I was tracking guitar, so I just threw it out in front of the Balls AC30 that had an M201 and 57 in an Andy Johns 45-degree angle setup right on the speaker . After moving the 87 around a lot I found a space a couple feet away that worked, but was still more energetic in the high mids than I’d prefer for that type of sound, but I liked how it sounded combined with the dynamic mics and there isn’t much else other than a metronome on the track yet.

It took some outboard to get it where I wanted, but it was pretty happening once I bussed it down to stereo and cleanup with Audioscape pultecs, stereo compression and a phase box. BTW I never used an oscilloscope to check phase until a couple weeks ago and now I feel a sudden need to remix everything I’ve recorded at home.

Then the Sony C38b came in when I was done recording guitar and it was time for vocals, which turned out to be kind of a fucked timing. On voice, the Serrano 87 was pretty perfect with little more than phantom power, at least until mixdown, but the Sony required some low and low mid cleanup with Audioscape Pultecs, then of course compression while you’re at it, etc.

I’m finding the Sony seems to do much better on guitars, kind of the opposite from Serrano, which did much better on voice. It also seems like the Sony has a wider room pickup or something? Just something I noticed when comparing them side by side. Wish I would have had the Sony when I was still recording the guitars but I’ll use it on bass next. It really is the most ribbon-like condensor I’ve ever heard. Love it.

Both super cool. Honestly I have always thought those Sony mics looked great, then found out all-time favs John Wood and Phill Brown were fans, so had been after them forever and bought a clean one on impulse after this huge sell off I’ve been doing. I’d like to try a C48 one day and bet I would love it.

Anyways its been fun doing this big sale and upgrade but I’m ready to go back to working with the same stuff for a while now, at least outside the odd Pay-In-4 dynamic mic purchase. It just feels like everything takes so much longer with new gear, plus I feel the need to have it out and test and justify the expense when I know I should be using something else whenever I’m working on a specific task.

Fun one!

I bought a really cheap Roland CA30 "Intelligent" Arranger. It basically generates a Drum Beat on Midi Channel 10, A Bass Line on Midi 2, and 2 (though it is supposed to do more, cant get it to) melodies on Channels 5, and 6. It is meant to plug into a terrible sound canvas tone generator for ultra Karaoke/Lounge singer vibes, but if you plug it into a computer with cool ass VST synths, it is a straight up freak out machine, especially if you run it reallyfast, or R E A L L Y S L O W with bunch of delay. Pretty fun. Works great with a Moog Tarus, Prophet, Rhodes sounds and my Korg K55c Drum Machine Plugin. Like if Silver Apples made it to the late 80's. I feel like I could do an entire record with this thing that absolutely nobody will ever listen to. Bonus points because it looks like it was built my Hewlett Packard in 1989.

Also got an HX One recently, it’s really really great. I’ve built a little 2 button switch so I can cycle presets up and down like the Ox9 does on my H9.

Other recent purchases:

Boss EH-2 Enhancer. I wanted some glassy top end for neck pickup stuff, and this does it.

Supro Delay - excellent sounding analogue delay, amazing slapback sound.

Very Good Amp Co EP Drive v3 - EP boost and drive in one, use it at the start of my chain, adds a nice girth to single coils.
