Oh I know that, I was just providing a reference of a cheap ass transformer. I just wasnt sure if there were any special considerations that one might take when selecting a step-up for microphone use. I cant think of any reason why a cheap option would be bad, and I doubt the wall voltage in Leningrad is perfect, but i'm also not a guy with recording experience.

"Variac" is in the process of becoming a generic word, like Kleenex or Velcro, but they're a brand that's been around a long time.

Though I agree with the esteemed Drs. Balls & Nate Dort that I don't think a $1000 Variac is going to behave noticeably differently than a $100 Vevor or whatever you find on AliExpress/eBay, e.g.: https://www.ebay.com/itm/127475463858

I'd probably want to check the accuracy of that "voltaje salida" digital display with a volt/ohm meter, but I bet it's close enough for rock and roll.

I see what you mean. Got it! I will check the voltaje salida's accuracy.
I was looking at this: https://voltagesuperstore.com/products/ ... -converter I guess voltage is just fixed with that one.
The added feature of the variable voltage seems useful. And, of course, the voltaje salida is a plus.

This is a (AEG) Russian company's reproduction PSU for a million dollars https://reverb.com/item/9682266-aeg-pow ... m-110-220v
Seems silly to buy that when the original PSU is probably ok... we'll see. Gonna go for the fake Variac variant conveniently located in New Jersey!

I have an AEG supply for a tube sdc IRPA mic - the whole system was less than what they want for the LOMO thing though. I mean its just a power supply, maybe the one they make for that mic is way tricked out or something, but unless something were wrong with what you already had I wouldn’t be falling over myself to buy one.

That mic does rule though (yours too).

This is awesome, thank you! I’ve had similar revelations where I noticed certain eq bands were in line with certain notes, so why shouldn’t it apply to phase too?

Your post also explained all those times when the phase button didn’t seem to do much - obv its not always night and day, and I would get hung up when there wasn’t a real winner when flipping the phase button. I’m glad I started using the scope together with the IBP as I feel like I’m getting deeper.

There’s a complicated Tape Op article about ‘multi-phase micing’ or something like that, where the author uses the phase shift inherent a multi-mic setup to his advantage. I need to review all this stuff together until it starts to make sense.
