Nowadays I think I like Rush more than she does, but I can only bring myself to listen to a handful of their tunes.

This is weird- I'm at work and went down to the cafeteria to get a drink, and left a note on my desk chair "brb, getting a soda"

I rarely use the word "soda" because I usually drink seltzer or juice

Then I come back and see this thread and this goofy ass song

What is happening
...no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Without further comment on T.S.S. video, I would like to say...I like the song - the production, the dynamics, the melody and chording, the chord voicing, etc. and think Aimee Mann's contribution is wasted on mere chorus vocals. BTW, I like some of her stuff, Voices Carry is a well done tune and video. However, I once her heard her interviewed on Jonesy's Jukebox and, she seemed really impressed with herself and was dismayed more people didn't aknowlege her genius.

THE SONG - music thumbs up, but the lyrics? Not up to previous Peart standards, new agey drivel, without subtlety and insight. Not the philosophical musings of Spirit of Radio, or the societal observations of Tom Sawyer (vice/versa this, still works) nor the effective storytelling of Red Barchetta. And it's always difficult for me to listen to Geddy's vocals.

Hey! There's an idea! Aimee should have sang the lead w/ Geddy on chorus vocals! < seriously, just thought of that just now.

THE BAND - as a rock obsessed dope smoking teen in south Orange County beach community, I never heard of, or heard Rush. Was not till I went into the service early 80's that I finally heard them. Military is full of guys from the Midwest, I assumed the band was a Midwest sort of thing, like REO Speedwagon and the like. One guy from Ohio I think, even had a tattoo of the naked guy holding off a pentagram, or whatever it was. Think it's an image from an album cover. True Story: one day, me and some other guys sitting around drinking beers, listening to records, someone put some Rush on the turntable. I was mostly ignoring it, and record cover was being passed around. Guy next to me, Hispanic guy from Texas, looking at the cover sez "That's one ugly chick! Is she the singer?" Rush fan who owned the record had to explain, no, that's the bass player and singer, and it's a guy. We laughed and laughed the way young stoners will do.

Found out recently that Geddy was using a double TL606 2x15 cabinet back in the late 70s/early 80s, kinda interesting to find out he played a version of the most PRF endorsed bass cab.

Echoing what a lot of folks have said: I loved the documentary, and they seem like solid dudes who have a sense of humor about themselves. I like that they just did/do their thing.

But I think "their thing" is fuck-awful nerd shit and I hate just about every note of it. "Subdivisions" is good. "YYZ" is good. A few of the other synth-y songs would decent with no singing or a different singer. Also get that rapping skeleton out of my face. It's too scary.

I love the mental image of Rush fans around the world slamming their pewter wizard statues and steampunk top hats to the ground upon hearing that they're going on tour with Anika Nilles, a LADY drummer, replacing Neil Peart.

My brother is the most avid Rush fan I know, and he can't wait to see them, and her.

Are you basing your vicarious pleasure on anything you have seen and heard from people who do enjoy the group, or...?

They popped up on youtube once and both Lex and I were like "Good god what is this crap?"
Being introduced to them at a very early age probably helped in my case. My two older sisters loved them. My sisters were a huge influence on my musical tastes early on, and as a result... Rush is a thing for me. I can't undo it, for better or worse. Yes, some women like Rush. Most of them were in band in high school, I'm guessing.

Going to see Rush in Chicago later this year with one of my sisters, in fact. I probably wouldn't have shelled out the $$ for the show but the tickets were a Christmas gift from my mom. Yeah, I'll go, sure, thanks mom.
