This year's submission to Shudder's holiday ghost story anthology, The Haunted Season, is a fantastic spooky tale adapted from Algernon Blackwood's The Occupant of the Room. A+

Rewatched Krampus after a long spell. It's fine, I guess. Third act rules. Toni Collette is so good at expressing fear.

I liked it much better than The Monkey which imo was a big misstep. Also liked it better than Longlegs. Big fan of The Blackcoat's Daughter. I'd say it's worth a watch, especially if you dig his other films!

It’s on the list now…are you on letterboxd? Is anyone else on here on there? Seems like it could be a useful tool...

I am not on letterboxd at this point but you never know!

Not sure why Hallow Road from 2025 flew under my radar, but holy cannoli what a great experience. Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys play a couple of worried parents en route to pick up their daughter on the side of the road from a hit-and-run accident that she caused. Most of the movie takes place in their car as they are talking with their daughter over the phone on how to handle the situation - tense enough - but a couple of other people come on to the scene which adds a supernatural aspect, or does it??? Total nail-biter. Still thinking about it. Super recommended.

This movie is a total fucking blast. Practical effects, suspense, gore, inventive kills, characters are disposable but who needs that shit when they are just gonna get disemboweled anyway. Ben is one scary ape.

I’m genuinely loving Letterboxd as a quick way to find screenings and streamings and to generally stay organized in this exhausting age of too much shit everywhere. Its social component is easy to take or leave.

I'll be lurking there and everywhere hoping to catch a screening of The Undertone. Been waiting since last summer for it.

This past week I watched Relic (2020) for the second time and fell deeper in love with it. Completely my vibe - slow but dripping fear and unease like molasses for its entire run time. Its strongest part is the third act which I find absolutely brilliant.

Is that the chimp from Nope? J/k but the "Gordy's Home" part of Nope felt like its own movie.

Agreed, just watched it after reading the entire Wikipedia entry, knowing I was spoiling any surprises but unwilling to commit to a film with an unsatisfying explanation. It was still worth the ride even after knowing where it was going to stop. It definitely fits in the newish genre that I like to call "Good For Her" horror.

Also just watched: Dreams in the Witch House from GdT's Cabinet of Curiosities, and I must say that fucking stank.

Going through the rest of the series, and it's all very visually appealing but the actual stories so far range from OK-but-dissatisfying to the aforementioned HPL stinker.

Also see: Unwelcome.

Watched a surprisingly watchable Tubi original called Match. It was gross, repulsive, disturbing, funny, and everything I wanted Barbarian to be. I didn't have to see its dick tho.
