Re: What Video Games Are You Playing?

I thought I already shared this, but a quick scroll didn't reveal, so apologies if this is a rerun from me:

I have been horribly addicted to Civilization VII on the Switch. It's a turn-based, strategy, society/military game. A more knowledgable gamer friend recommended it when I was nostalgic for playing Age of Empires on the PC in the 2000s. Something about the rhythm of it sucks me in and then I can't get off for an hour or more, and some times go to bed way too late. The economic, cultural and military development threads are cool. It's weirdly satisfying in a Sim City way to see your towns grow and your gold increase, or you build a Colossus or Eiffel Tower. Then it ramps up in excitement when you inevitably wind up in a war.

My only complaint is sometimes the rounds move too slow when you're just letting things grow, and the Switch hardware is stretched to its limit with the software. As the map gets huge and there are way more pieces on the board at the end it gets kind of slow and occasionally glitches.

I needed to pry myself off after the last campaign. My kiddo is into Minecraft, we've played together on and off over the last couple years. I decided just to launch a new world for myself when I had half an hour before bed last night and it had been a stressful day. Something about all those dumb bricks of ore and building a house is really relaxing. It speaks to my inner 10 year old.

This game is infuriatingly difficult in spots, but it's also gorgeous and addictive and I DID manage to slay the Beastfly a day or so later. Now OTHER shit makes me want to throw my Switch. Man, this game is good.
I've been meaning to get the first one. Thanks for the heads up. I'll go in ready for a challenge.

I've been wanting to get Silksong, but the one thing I didn't like about Hollow Knight was traversing around and getting lost and not remembering where I was going, and it seeming impossible to get to certain areas. I think I completed 85% of it? Anyway, is Silksong like this? I almost don't want to play it if that's the case. The difficulty is fine, I enjoyed the challenge.
