They are going for like $800 now.

Yeah. Peaveys are unbreakable, well, the pre-digital processing ones anyway. Old TNT bass or keyboard amps blast and too heavy to be robbed. There was an old PRF forum about old peaveys left out in the street or survived a plane crash, something along those linesGarth wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 9:54 am+1 - I bought a pair when I thought I wanted to do a stereo thing. I'd compare them to what a "super-Bandit" would be if they branded it differently. Lotsa power, does the clean platform thing similar to a Jazz Chorus. My only beef is that like most old Peavey, it's much heavier than it needs to be, especially for a solid-state amp. Changing out the Scorpion speaker helps a wee bit.
While we're at it, we could throw a ton of OLD Peavey on this list. I think most of us are aware of the gems, but an old cranked Rage is just the ticket for getting the sound of feeling like things are going to fly apart at the seams at any moment. Mace/Deuce = great clean hybrid tube amps w/ more than enough power for anything. Original Butcher as we know is basically a JCM800. VTM series is dope (and the matching speaker cabs came loaded w/ Celestion G12K-85 (same as G12K-100)). Mark IV for bass, hard to go wrong there. The old Musicians were surprisingly great amps as well. I'm sure I'm missing tons of others. Weight was the main issue on most of these (and I have been told many of them used proprietary components making them sometimes challenging to repair, would defer to others to verify).
I could mic up an entire drum set with half a dozen of those and a kick mic and be satisfied.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 12:41 am Shure KSM137 (or 141). Its never really the coolest mic to grab for anything but it seems to work for everything. For $150 used they are no brainers.
They are great.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 12:41 am Shure KSM137 (or 141). Its never really the coolest mic to grab for anything but it seems to work for everything. For $150 used they are no brainers.

That’s why I bought mine! It’s at least as good as the other famous options I have like the M201, 57, etc. Overheads too. They are cheap used and pretty unbreakable, you should see what the basket cases I use look like.gazza wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 12:06 pmi need to pick up a few of these. ever use one on a snare?llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 12:41 am Shure KSM137 (or 141). Awesome! Due to the nature of the room that I track drums in I gravitate towards the beyer m160 for overheads to minimize reflections from the ceiling and the wall behind the drummer but I have been in the market for a better snare mic. I have been generally dissatisfied with the standard options. I thought about picking up one of those oktava mics also.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 12:43 pmThat’s why I bought mine! Are avatar cabs good? I see them around and always equated them with low tier modeling stuff.eephus wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 9:55 amThey are great.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 12:41 am Shure KSM137 (or 141).
