Last night I played an Open Mic. At the start, the emcee asked if anyone could play a song for a first-time open mic goer to sing. While the first few people perform, I overhear the new guy talking to some people, and he says the song he wants to sing is 'Creep' by Radiohead. I look up the chords. There's only 4. I walk up to the guy and tell him I'll do it. I've never played the song before. We get up there, and he SINGS THE HELL out of the song, the high notes on the 'RUN' part of the song get some woos and claps from the crowd. It was like he really needed to sing that song last night. It was a very cool moment, I had never done anything like that before.

A daytime fireball/meteor was seen to the southeast of Austin a couple of hours ago. Apparently, it caused a sonic boom in the Houston area. Pretty crazy, especially considering it just happened over Ohio a couple of days ago.

Was visiting Illinois State’s School of Creative Technologies today with my youngest. Professor Marshack stopped by and chatted with us for a few minutes. Looks like my youngest may have her for a professor next year!

Lovely little detail, way to go.

1. I woke up feeling like a crumpled sheet of paper, then I remembered that the new Frank Hurricane album came out today. I sat in the sunroom drinking coffee while my cats Lenny and Squiggy made those noises cats make when they desire a bird. That Frank Hurricane album ironed me out proper.

2. I had the day off, so I went shopping for pants. Marshall’s, Old Navy, and three thrift stores had no pants in my size. All you people under 6’5” and 270 lbs should rejoice in the fact that you can find clothes in your size, for cheaps.

3. When I came home, my partner was freaking out about taxes. I’m glad that I made so little money this last year that I don’t have to freak out about taxes. Sometimes it pays to be financially illiterate and unmotivated by money. Not often, but sometimes.

4. I took a nap with my cats, the three of us curled up in the guest room bed. I listened to canned rain and thought about the drought breaking. Maybe it’ll happen this year. Probably not. Rain is like a holiday, lately.

5. My bandmate LeeAnn came over and we went for drinks at a neighborhood bar. Afterward, we took a rideshare to go see Red Kross. Conan Neutron was opening up. Say what you will about Conan, but he got out of this PRF musical ghetto and is really dialing his thing in. Red Kross kicked ass. It was cool seeing Dale Crover cut loose.

7. I have to get up at 5:30 and open the park. Nighty-night.
