They worked it down from 2305 players to 111 players in one day yesterday!

Listen to this suckout:

[Mike] Matusow just knocked someone out on a massive beat. Matusow sees raised flop with Kd 7d, other guy has Ad 9d. They get it all in for $30,000 each. Matusow is nearly 50:1 dog but catched running kings. Other guy is busted and Matusow takes chip lead.

That was with 130 players left. I'll leave my thoughts about Matusow to myself, but what a dick.

They paid the top 200 players, so it took forever when they got to the bubble. After the 201st guy was knocked out, they started dropping like flies.

Also: "Players are reminded that they can't listen to music once they are in the money. All headphones and iPods must be removed. The players boo this announcement."

Going into day two, Mike Matusow is in second place and some guy from Dublin, Ohio is in first. The prize pool is $3.18 Million.

Here's some pics for ya:

Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. I wonder how much it costs to have your therapist on the phone with you for the entire tournament.

Event #3, the $1500 buy-in Pot-Limit Hold'em event is underway. There were 1071 entrants.

Daniel Negreanu is out already after this beat:

"Daniel Negreanu flopped a full house with pocket 8's full of Aces and is out when the other player flopped quad Aces."

Ouch. But my guess is that he is only playing these lower buy-in events for show. I think his strategy is build-up quickly or get out and play in the juicy side games. $1500 for Daniel is like $0.15 for most of us.

I don't think moving in with bottom full is particularly wise, but if he had a short stack, I'd understand.

I agree that such "small" money is pretty meaningless to DN. He has said he will flip coins for 50 grand.

In other exciting poker news:

Daniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein started playing a heads-up match of 7-Stud last night. They ended at midnight, so they could get rest for today's WSOP events. They will resume tonight. DN is up 74k on Barry.

This is the third (maybe fourth) heads-up match that Daniel has played w/ different challengers.

Phil Hellmuth is out of the $1500 NLHE Event.

He placed 24th:

Phil Helmuth $15,905 (remaining woman, Liz Lieu, removes Phil- Helmuth has 21K left and he bets 18K leaving himself 3K. Liz is giving it some thought. He says "I want you to call but I dont want you to get lucky". She calls and he bets his last 3K in the dark. The flop comes Ac Kc 9s. She tosses in the 3K showing the Kd Qc and he shows 6c 6h. Turn and River bring 20 miles of railroad track and sends Phil home. He shakes her hand and mutters "she calls me with a KQ".

How much you wanna bet that he wishes he didn't bet his case 3000 in the dark?

Devilfish and Scott Fischman are still in, and Allen Cunningham, the nerdy dude w/ the blueblockers, has the chip lead.

Some other good stuff:

The videos over at http://www.CardPlayer.com are pretty cool.

What's better is that Jesse May has his own poker show! You can watch it at http://www.CardPlayer.com. Some of you might remember the great Late Night Poker which used to be on a few years ago. At the time, I really despised his commentary, now I really miss it. What he has now is this talkshow with Padraig Parkinson, his chum from the Late Night Poker show, compete with over-the-top intro, and special features. There's an interview w/ Daniel Negreanu and Evelyn Ng. It's F'n awesome!

After about 4 hours of play tonight, it's over. Daniel loses his $500k to Barry.

They are planning on playing a $500k match for each of the 9 events in which Daniel said he would take challenges. But, Barry wins the 7-Stud match.

His dark bet pretty much guarantees a call. There's almost no flop that he could be confident of without a 6 on it, so it was a bluff: "I've got Jacks-or-better in the pocket."

I've never heard of a dark-bet bluff before.

In pool, there are often "locked-up" bets -- play for $50 a game until someone wins $500, then it's over. Is that how these challenges work? When someone is up $500k it's over?
