Actually, that's about the exact settings that I used recently on a set of live recordings for an old band I was in.

I think my response may have been a little off-the-wall vis a vis what you were looking for, but I think the kind of music you play and the strength of your music will necessitate what sort of compression parameters you want to apply.

A specific answer to your question would depend on what you think about your music.

The downside though is that is raises the noise floor by whatever the makeup gain is. At least that was my experience using those settings.

Next time I'm going to try throwing dbx into the recording/mixdown and see what happens!

it's going to be impossible for you to do any real "mastering" of a project you play on, recored and mixed yourself.

i'd suggest taking a closer look at what you can do to your mix to make it sound more like what you want...

mastering is more about adding a new (yet experienced) pair of ears then just squishing a mix.

fault the mix.. don't just squish it
