The rest act like they're offended but I think the real reason is they can't play with one.
On my last record, out soon, my drummer and I were the only ones listening to it and often we were listening to different outputs from the same drum machine (e.g. he'd take quarters and I'd take eigths or he'd take 16ths and I'd take quarters with a back beat, etc.). In addition to keeping perfect time, I think our method focused at least two of us on performing discrete and complimentary tasks.
