Since you are absolutely obsessed with cars, and rallying in particular, and are disparaging of motorsport in the US, I'd love to hear your explanation of how the US team, which featured two NASCAR drivers, completely fucking dusted a bunch of a Euro rally drivers in their own discipline during the 2002 Race of Champions.evolu wrote:I live in the UK, I am an absolute motorsport nut, I have been involved in motorsports (rallying mainly) all of my adult life, I am obsessed with cars.
NASCAR is not a motorsport, merely another US interpretation on a sport (ala Baseball, American football, Basketball etc..)

I think you'll find mechanical failure ended the run of the european rally drivers in the 2002 race of champions.
Maybe you could explain why the Pikes Peak hill climb has been dominated by european manufacturers and drivers for the last 20 years, and why most of the US rallying events are also dominated by european rally drivers (Mark Higgins, David Higgins, Mike Lovell...until he died).
Come on, you drive around in bowl for fuck sake......how hard can it be to design a car that only has to turn left on super smooth tarmac??

You are correct. The emotions it conjurs are somewhere between mildly annoying and downright terrifying, depending on the level of drunken aggression that the biker peeing on your front yard seems to have within him.
But not to worry. Spring Break was just as bad.

There are definitely better races to go to, crowd-wise. I seem to recall the 24 hours of Daytona (A rally race! In the infield! They turn right too!) as being more sparsely attended and a fair amount of fun to go to. Not to mention cheaper. And if you have a camper, you can camp in the infield.
Im just glad I worked/lived/went to school beach-side, because the 500 pretty much shuts down that whole side of the river when it's on.

18Fake production cars running in a circle for hours. I'm no racing fan, but I can appreciate the purpose-built nature of Formula 1 vehicles.
But hey, who doesn't love racing pickups?
CRAP.
