Crap or Not Crap: Compulsory Military Service

I think that was the point: you will be "asked" back. I believe (if I understand the position clearly) the problem of low enlisting is to be partially solved by extending stays across the board.

I think what Brad was trying to get at is, it doesn't matter who it's for, it's an endgame that's morally bankrupt. What is your take on it? And how does your division feel about Anthony Swofford?

I don't think the draft is the answer, I guess I'm just saying that enlisting might benefit people more than some might think.

After Sep. 11, a lot of people were put on stop-loss, which is basically retainment of anyone who was planning on retiring or separating from the military. I don't know if this will happen again, on a large scale, but it's hard to see implementation of the draft. You never know....there are certain AFSC's (or for the Army/Marine's, MOS's, basically, your job code) that will be screwed more than others when it comes to this.

It's just a sad mess right now...

It's never about yourself. That kind of service is about doing the grunt work for the ruling class. The economy went down, they thought they'd suck in a whole bunch of poor people with their offers of education and money; apparently, they didn't get enough of what they were looking for.

It seems like bad business to me. I don't see why the gov't should get a boost just because they can't effectively market their own product anymore. As stupid as this country is, I think a lot of people are less trusting of the gov't now than they once were, and that's good news because I don't think there's a chance in hell the draft would be "pure". Everyone who is able to dodge it would, and so essentially they're just attacking the lower classes some more, increasing the sample size over which they get to play natural selection.
That's bad times. Used and Abused... CRAP.
