In 2003, the Pezner went bankrupt but the people managing it decided to live in the venue. I slept there once and we watched the tape of the US Maple gig.

I don't know if there are still living there but you should try to get in touch with Christophe, the manager, he may send you a copy of the tape:

I don't know if the phone still works.

Thanks for the lead! I tried the e-mail but it was kicked back. The phone number worked, but I got a hold of a guy that only spoke French.... and I only speak English.... barely..... and now that I think about it, it was probably 2 am there when I called.... I may try snailmail, but I'm trying to get in touch with a friend who speaks French to make the call for me....

It definitely sounds like something that is worth tracking down....

To your recollection, how did it sound?

Thanks again...

Tony

I'll call them for you on Monday. PM me your contact info please.
And yes, don't forget it's 7 hours later in France than in Chicago.

Here are the news about the Pezner:

I called today and the phone number above is no longer used by them. So I called a good friend of mine who now lives in Paris and had lived in Lyon. He knew the Pezner team very well. He wasn't at home but he thinks he has at least 3 phone numbers of people who worked at the venue. He will email me the numbers tomorrow. Hopefully, there will be at least one working.

He also told me he has an audio recording of the gig (cdr). He will send it if you want.

Yeah, I know what you’re talking about…. I have to say, too, it’s one of the most genius “band on the road” kinda videos I have ever seen. Out of their shear boredom of being on the road they (USM & MB) concocted these little whacked narrative skits that Rittmann shot with all in-camera edits and the stories got more complex as their boredom grew… To the point where they performed open heart surgery on Shippy on somebody’s kitchen floor in Austin, TX and, I think, his heart turned out to be a bell pepper….

Oh yeah, and the live stuff is great too!

Just talked to Todd today and he still has all of that…. So, it’s in the library…

Maybe I'm the last to know, but I heard U.S. Maple broke up...true?

Also, on the Skin Graft site it says this:

A number of Snailboy songs recorded by Butch Vig remain unreleased.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any idea if these songs are floating around? I remember hearing a very poor quality cassette of some really cool Snailboy stuff not on any other releases and wishing I had a better copy. All I can remember about the recordings is one song where Al says "Better for Belgians" or something like that.

A US Maple doc would be great...

What I'd really love to see is some footage of Snailboy or Shorty...

Please include those years in your doc if you are able.
