Scott, have you built an amp yet? Do it already.
If you can make it kick sufficient ass, I might buy one.

Well, sorta, if you count me taking a Traynor YVM-1 (1960's 4-channel tube PA) and removing the preamp section and replacing it with a preamp section that's a very slightly changed version of the Marshall JMP/JCM800 preamp... then yes I've built an amp. Otherwise, no.
I have vague plans for what I wanna do to my Sound City 120, completely redesigning the preamp section (it's even more sterile than a Hiwatt!) but I don't know if I'll ever get the time. Hopefully someday.
I still haven't decided, when I rebuild my 60's YBA-3 (which is completely disassembled and in jars right now) if I'm gonna keep it stock, or rebuild it using O'Connor's "Improved YBA-3" schematic, or do the same thing I did with the voicemaster and throw the JMP preamp in there... it's a tough call. The YBA-3 design kicks so much ass, stock, that I might just rebuild it the way Pete designed it. Ass-kickingly great.
Yeah, I'd love to design and build amps for a living, but I don't have enough time to fix/mod my own amps... if I built amps, they'd have to be so absurdly expensive to cover my time, that you'd do better to just buy a Traynor, Marshall, or Ampeg. Hell, maybe even add the DC30 to the list, considering how much time it would take me to build an amp.
Man I wish I was a fucking lotto winner. Then you'd have an amp in like six months.

13Scott: Andy, to whom you sold the YBA-3, is buying an Electrical Custom Baritone.
I am so excited to go deaf playing drums next to it!
BTW, I did not die replacing the power cable. Thank you for the tips on draining the caps.
Such a great amp.

14Theres alot of love for Traynor's around here...(Garnets' too?) My 22watt? Traynor YGm-4 Studio -Mate isint that loud on its own. The clean boost switch is great for sharp clear stuff and the tremolo and reverb are the best I've ever heard. There is another Canadian amp maker to look for ...Thorcraft...also known as Grant. Here's a link to some lesser known Canadian stuff.
