You might notice if you're poking around the photos on the site that there's some distance miking going on, as well as boundary miking, with the mics taped to the floor.
Also, don't overlook the most important thing about capturing room tone--you have to have a good-sounding room.
Then there's the whole "which mic to use on this, and where to put it" field of knowledge which comes with experience. But if you're not familiar with the attributes of various mics, the Equipment pages here will be very helpful, I'd think.

12the only pictures of drum micing I've seen on this site is the Nuerosis Ketucky triangle post. Is there any others, and could someone give m a link? thank you.

13If you haven't done so already, check out the lecture Steve gave that is currently available in the General Discussion forum. He gives away all his secrets.
Where can I find this ? I looked but couldn't find it.

15Thanx for the link. Watched the whole thing this morning. Very entertaining. Didn't really hear anything new but hadn't expected to.
He's obviously an experienced sensible guy who knows what he's doing and it's always a good idea to listen to what people like that have to say.

He uses a razor blade to chop the garlic into amazingly thin slices so it melts in the butter.

18A lot of people don't know this about Steve because he stays so thin but when recording he uses only real butter, no margarine crap. He often delays this butter by 20 milliseconds.

19Here is a so-so picture of my kit microphoned up by Steve in Studio B. Hope it helps...

Wow, Chris, you mentioned this quite a while ago, and only now do I notice. If you haven't found the photos by now, you can check them out in the forum at http://www.electrical.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20.
