A band that I was in a while ago got completely hammered every practice, infact most of their songs were about drinking "Bing Britain Riot" and so on. It was quite fun, but it made me an alcoholic for a few weeks before I decided to quit.

Us too. not hammered mind you. just drinking.

The one time we did bring a bottle of whiskey to practice things went south
quite quickly. (when i say South i do not mean we started playing covers of Blackfoot).

Our drummer has been working at Trader Joes for the last couple of months so the quality of beer has risen considerably.

Beer, good beer is fine by me.

This seems odd to me. Why would you associate drinking with music? When you go to a show at a bar then it's a mix of going out with your friends for the night (which will undoubtedly involve pints, etc.) and live music. But outside of that, it's just music - no "going out".

Yes. Yes we do. When practicing, when recording, when writing, when performing, etc. None of us is ever stupid-drunk or anything, usually it's like 2 berrs each, something like that. I like it fine and well.

Usually a beer or two. Many, many more if its a show. At one practice with the last band I was in, the drummer was drunk, I drank a flask of Fighting Cock within 15 minutes or so, and the singer was sober. That was our last band practice. Several months later, we're all playing together with a different band again.
