all i remember from CH is the real big turtle that get hacked up. i think that movie is more shocking just for the animal cruelty. i can only remember one human death that stood out (this is from watching it maybe 10 years ago).
i remember being like 12 and renting "i spit on your grave" because from the box it looked like a boob filled romp. how wrong i was.

12those italian cannibal films are fucked up for that shit.
the scene i'm talking about has the actors being friendly with some kind of furry soft monkey/dog creature.
then they tie it up near their tent and a big snake comes along and they film this giant snake wrapping itself around the thing and chocking it until it is dead.
it stunned me as a kid that they set an animal up to die and would film this.
really put me off those movies.
well that and the fact that most of them are crap.

13my friends and i watched sooooooo many of those movies. there was this video store by where i grew up that had rent 5 horror movies for $1 and you could keep them for a week. we would tear through all 5 in two days and we repeated this process for almost an entire summer. those old people who ran the place must have thought we were going to grow up into serial killers

i agree, Irreversible was the most disturbing movie i have seen untill this damn movie.
C'mon!!! Apart from that 20 minutes long rape scene, which is (I agree) disturbing, this movie is quite bearable to watch. And it has the most beautiful beginning credits ever.
Salo is way harder to watch than Irreversible.
Visitor Q disturbed me a lot.

15All right. When can I expect one of you internet phreaks to kick up a copy of "The Day The Clown Cried"?
A May 1992 article in Spy magazine quotes Harry Shearer, who saw a rough cut of the film in 1979:
"With most of these kinds of things, you find that the anticipation, or the concept, is better than the thing itself. But seeing this film was really awe-inspiring, in that you are rarely in the presence of a perfect object. This was a perfect object. This movie is so drastically wrong, its pathos and its comedy are so wildly misplaced, that you could not, in your fantasy of what it might be like, improve on what it really is. 'Oh My God!' — that's all you can say."

16I'm guessing there is still no workprint or other copies of the Jerry Lewis movie circulating. Is the script the only thing you can get your hands on? What a weird film...

17If it's the same movie I'm thinking of, it was all the rage amongst the other freshman my first year of college. Films like that one, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, Last Temptation of Christ... basically anything they could get their hands on that was in some way fucked up or had some real dark core to it. I never much got into that kinda stuff, even on a cognitive level, like, "okay, super-fucked-up... why do I want to see this again?" So I've yet to subject myself to this film.
It's kinda like when the internet first had the videos of white folk being beheaded in the middle east... I managed to realize I really didn't need to see it.
It's like, go rent Faces Of Death or something, right?

18Cannibal Holocaust is fucked up. I'm not into watching people kill random animals. However what was awesome was the incidental music. Every time something horrible happened there was this synth sound, "Doow deew doow deew" that totally trivialized the extreme violence in a truly captivating way. Fucking Germans.
I have to see all of the films mentioned above. Video nasties, gore galore!

19I went through a phase of being shall we say, a little 'taken' with Vincent Gallo so, when I worked at HMV I basically spent my days searching through Track for anything T&G on vinyl etc...and films with VG in 'em. I came across this one..can't remember what it's called now but he was basically a cannibal scientist with some french actress who is quite popular with the gents...um, so, I was quite disturbed and got a refund for it. Not nice. No humour in it you see...
