Word: Sneakers vs. Trainers

Being a bit of an anglophile, I do like the sound of trainers. However, if I were to start walking around Chicago talking about buying myself a new pair of trainers....well....that would just be ridiculous.

Like Americans who spend a few days in England and come back saying, "Cheers!" (CRRRAPP!)

I call them sneakers to distinguish from street, dress, or casual shoes. I tend to think of shoes in those categories.

Sneakers: anything from running shoes to Vans to basketball shoes
Street: anything that's not sneakers or dress shoes
Dress: like wingtips and stuff
Casual: traditional styles like bucks, loafers, or deck shoes (I'm from the East coast)
