Kind of funny, I'd imagine Billy Crudup as Night Owl and Patrick Wilson as Dr. Manhattan. The guy they got for the comedian, however, seems PERFECT.

I don't think this movie will be a success - what are they possibly going to do with the ending?! In V for Vendetta no one really died, so what are they going to do with a fucking nuclear disaster???
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I not particularly fond of it either but the way that it breaks up the main story is integral to the flow of the narrative. And riding the dead shark raft can't be beat, that needs to be seen on film.
It 's somewhat ironic ...I am more of a Frank Miller guy because of how his stories tend to constantly punch forward however, to make great films out of his stories(not that Sin City was not Great) would require a little more nuance and exploration than he provides. The things that bother me about Alan Moores stories AS COMICS are that they are too nuanced and explore a little too far away from the core of the story, exactly the quality that would make them great films AND exactly what is NOT included in film adaptations of his stories.
Miller writes naturally for comics and they do not adjust them too heavily for film whereas Moore (IMHO) seems to write more Naturally for film yet they adapt his stories to be more "Comic Like" for movies.
Just like translating a text from one language to another, something is always lost or changed when adapting from one medium to another regardless of how hard the one doing the adapting tries to stay loyal to the original work.
My favorite book is "I am legend" by Richard Matheson it has been made into a movie two times so far. "The Last man on earth" starring Vincent Price was fairly loyal to the story but low production values, faulty pacing and subtle (and some major) details left out of the story leave it an enjoyable but not a great film. "The Omega Man" starring Charleston Heston changes many details and leaves the original story and intent bleeding in an alley somewhere. There is rumored to be a version starring ...gasp..Will Smith in pre-production and from that casting alone my heart sinks..those who could do it justice would be William H. Macy or Morgan Freeman.
My point is that once Hollywood gets it's hands on it, if you do not view an adaptation as a new work unto itself you will be very disappointed maybe even feel betrayed. The only exception that I am aware of is, Again, "Sin City".

Pretty crappy.

I'm looking forward to the Watchmen movie, only because I've developed an ability, nearly unprecedented among fanboys, to separate source material and adaptations. If it's a good movie, I'll enjoy it. If it's a bad movie, I won't. If it doesn't live up to the comic, I'll be unsurprised like everyone else who's read it, but that doesn't necessarily mean I won't like it.
