Well as long as it gets you more business and helps more bands get recorded that's great.
But pro-tools is gh3yzors. There, I said it.

This is such bullshit. I mean come on.
yeah, i mean come on. first this week, we see steve hanging out with his new bffs joe shanahan and kanye west. now he's got his first pro tools rig. what's going on steve? i mean come on. next thing you know, your gonna be making your interns (who will have hot boobs, btw) throw down antes for you, if you're not not too busy bossing them around to bring those the big deal contracts over for you to sign.
how the mighty have fallen.

14Mackie Tracktion?
Half Joke, Half real suggestion.
I use it, very straightforward, I'll bet Steve could learn to use it in ten minutes (no shit). It's cheap as hell and you could export the .wavs to Protools. A digital option that won't frustrate the living shit out of everyone.

16i think pro tools (the LE or digi systems) is really cool for people like me who can't afford/manage/maintain tape machines for a home recording setup.
but i'd be really upset if i came to some professional studio that only operated pro tools, no tape. like, damn, i guess dynamic range is cool and all, but in the past year, the classes i've taken involving digital logic have really convinced me that tape/analog is the "ideal" for capturing a continuum of sound. especially if it's going to get digitized at some point anyway.
i mean, with digital, there is no "continuum", only sample rates. which is a chaotic world.
many times over the past few years, on message boards, i will be in a thread involving an album where people post reviews/opinions, and i come across the cynical statement "i smell pro tools"... there's a good justification for that cynicism, beyond the technical details of digital recording: pro tools is conducive to a shady workflow.
needless to say, this has all been said many times on these boards. just thought i'd post this in light of electrical's acquisition of a PT system. regarding electrical, as long as they're not "switching" to pro tools, just adding the system, it can't do harm. they get to preserve the integrity of their best recordings (by using tape) and at the same time get pro tools for customers who are into that kind of thing.

With all due respect, if it's such bullshit, why did you buy the thing? I mean, you do run the place, right?
Hey, if people are going to ask for it, you might as well have it. Recording is a service industry, and it's not like you have to throw out the tape machines to let it in the door.

19I don't see any conflict or anything to be upset about. Electrical is an artistic AND a business endeavor. Adding Protools as an option only makes Electrical a more comprehensive and competitive studio. The spirit and ethic of Electrical are not eliminated or weakened by the presence of Protools.
