there are lots of mediocre bands on TG that i don't listen to.
Edited after a brief lapse in maturity on my part.

FWIW, re BV:
steve wrote:I heard some cassettes of a couple of Butch's mixes from Nevermind, and they were much more aggressive, typical of his recordings of the bands Nirvana had already heard -- the Laughing Hyenas, Killdozer, Tad... They sounded pretty good, in other words.

I would've liked to see Nirvana on Touch and Go.
Great label and great band.

If Nirvana had signed to Touch and Go there's a good chance I wouldn't be reading this thread right now.

has a band ever left touch and go, signed to a major and sold huge amounts of records?
I dont think any have, they've all crashed and burned from what I can recall.
Dischord too.

when was this?
I don;t remember them selling shit. They had one song that they played on the alterna station a few times but I don't think anyone actually bought it.
Do you know anyone with that record?
The label wouldn't even put out the next one they made, that's how many they sold.

I think you're talking about Electriclarryland, it went gold in three months. But it sucked.

Going 'gold' is what? 500,000 records? Triple that and they are close to having a 'somewhat successful' record on a major label.
That's jack shit in major label alterna-pop world

Skronk wrote: If say, they had signed with T&G, and did their indie version of nevermind, it might have had the same songs, although Vig wouldn't have touched it.
Vig had already recorded the band at Smart the previous year before getting the Nevermind gig,
Dive came from that session. Geffen did'nt know that much about or even want him for the job though.
