Steve, here's the two things I would do.
One, pry up the offending key and look what if anything is jammed in there. The keys pop off and pop back on. It usually takes a minute to study the springing/key-holding mechanism to understand how to pop it back in right, but sometimes you can just put it in exactly the right place and push it down and it pops itself back in.
Two, you can get an external USB keyboard to use with it, in a pinch or just to use in general. Laptops are pretty much always better with an external USB mouse hooked up (seems weird at first but pretty quickly becomes apparent how much better it is than the onboard mouse.
And of course the replacement keyboard thing is an option, too. But there's a fine chance that all you need to do is pop off that offending key and find one of Todd's toenails under it and there ya go.
