Thunderdome: Rapeman vs Scratch Acid
12I wish I could play every single one of Rapeman's songs.
Rapeman, easily.

15Scratch Acid was great and all, but certainly not consistently awesome. There's two songs on that cd that kill and the rest is fill to me, good fill but fill nonetheless. Really, the only Scratch Acid song I've ever really given a damn about was Cannibal.
The Rapeman cd is one big hit. The worst on there tops out 90% of the 21 songs on the Scratch Acid cd.
Rapeman, Fuck The World.

Flaming Lips also do a sweet cover.
Edit: Well that was helpful.

I have almost the exact same response hearing that song. It made me reconsider for a while.
Still, I have to give it to Scratch Acid. Why? Because Scratch Acid did more from a stylistic viewpoint than Rapeman did. Steve has never written a song as gloriously, hilariously, and brilliantly demented as "Crazy Dan." (The question, of course, is whether he needs to, which he doesn't.) Rapeman had one style while Scratch Acid had many. And, while there's a lot to be said for finding a style, sticking to it, and making it work like nothing else for you, I'm always going to give a nod to a band that manages to cover tons of different styles incredibly well while sounding like nobody but themselves, and Scratch Acid did that beautifully. I mean, for Christ's sweet sake, "Amicus"! That is one of the greatest fucking songs I've ever heard in my life! And what is it? Bebop comedy pop? Or something?
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

When I lived in the suburbs of Chicago, I would walk by a restaurant every day. On the menu: Chinese and Japanese food. I never ate there, and there's not a doubt in my mind that it was CRAP.
There are maybe three or four Scratch Acid songs that have stood the test of time for me. Perhaps I only like one of their many styles?
Verdict: Rapeman
