I'll tell you something else, it's pretty fucking amazing, how we hang in there, it really is.

Its pretty fucking amazing how little anyone, with the exception of Tom Brennaman, cares about the Marlins "hangin' in there." Even if they beat the Yankees and win it all, don't be surprised if Alex Gonzales is the only name you recognize in next years starting lineup. Remember '97?
be good or be good at it....

Dudes,

Read the papers. The '97 Marlins had a payroll similar to that of the Yankees. The '03 Marlins have NO payroll  . So, yes, you WILL know the players in time as they are very affordable to the team. Huizenga (owner of the team in '97) was a businessman and had/still has no love for anything but money. This time around it's all about heart, skill, and team effort.

Dylan, how many times has that been said? Mmmm

And jupiter, (and everybody else) don't be a hater, be a congratulator.

Aim all your frustrations and hatred towards the Yankees. You don't hate the Marlins, we haven't beaten you enough times to stir that in you people. I mean, I know that's just a matter of time, but you know, don't get ahead of yourselves.

If they had only let that damn goat in. :D

russ, buddy,

Read the papers. It's 10 million, but it's payed over the next three years. That's roughly 3.3 million a year. That's how it's NO payroll. Unlike Jeter, who makes roughly 15 + million a year. You wanna know how much our shortstop makes? If I remember correctly it's about $180,000 a year. Yeap. Isn't that something? Oh, well, like that Beatles tune says: Can't buy me love.

Don't twist things. When I say no payroll I mean compare to what other teams are paying anually, not to how fucking much you're making.

mosca, pal,

It doesn't matter if it's paid in one year or in three, he's still earning 10 million this year. Therefore, he's making 10 million this year. Therefore, he's making 5000 an hour. (Actually more in his case. [Cuz he works less than 2000 hours per year.])

I don't care how much the yankees make or how much any other player is making. I believe my point is much more general than that.

I'm trying to say that 10 million could pay the salaries of a business with a small staff (less than 10 people) for well over 50 years.

Therefore, Pudge's salary alone, much less that of the entire team and staff of the Marlins, can not be claimed as "NO salary".

Jeez.

russ, dude,

Don't be so hard headed. It's 3.3 million a year and counts only for this year's salary numbers, so NO, it's NOT 10 million a year.

And again, it's not compare to your salary, but to the other teams. A kid at McDonalds has a salary, you have a salary, and so it's not meant to be taken so literaly. That's the point if you hadn't gotten it yet.

Your salary could support 20 people in Haiti for the next 50 years, what's your point?

Don't bother, we've taken this a bit longer than it should've.

I'm done.

By the way, how about them Marlins stealing one up in Yankee stadium. Still a lot of baseball left but that was a pretty good game. No fear, baby...no fear.

Huh?

The '97 Marlins had a payroll similar to that of the Yankees.

That's kind of what I was trying to get at originally. I may not know as much about the economics of the sport, but this seems wrong to me. The Yankees have been around for a lot longer and have proven themselves consistently. In so doing, I believe, they have earned that salary. How did the Florida team get their salary up so quickly? Don't they have a good team only because they could BUY all the great players? I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand.

'03 marlins are a totally different kind of team than '97 marlins

'97 marlins were soldiers of fortune for the most part--totally stacked team. it helped that the enduring memories of the series were livan hernandez and edgar renteria, though.

this team, they are a more-or-less sustainable combination of homegrown talent and free agent signings

payroll? about 52.5 million, 20th outta 30 teams in MLB. 1/3 of the yankees' payroll. about 3 mil more than oakland.
