I've been looking around for one. I'd love to be able to try one out before buying it but it's not an option here. I assume it'll be loud enough for playing larger clubs? If it is and it sounds good, I'd be more than happy to sell the 2x12 and get a 1x12. I'm going to be in New York next moth with a car so I'm hoping that a store will have one then than I can try out.

Woof good luck, 4010 is UNcommon. Maybe not "rare as hen's teeth" but only finding a couple active sales for one oneline.

I was thinking you could shave off a couple more pounds if you just ran it w/ one speaker (maybe even one of these G12 Neo) and switched the ohms on the back accordingly? I doubt it would have much effect on the overall sound since it's a mostly-open back combo already. Might make it slightly awkward to transport but if you kept the speakers opposite the x-formers, that might help balance it out some.

You could gain a slight bit more weight savings if you haven't already completely removed the back panels?

If you take off the above, that should get you a lot closer to a 55 pounder and the 4010 seems to be about 53. Not bad.

Also, since you build stuff Elisha, maybe you could build a new 1x12 combo cab using lighter wood and a neo speaker? You probably couldn't get much smaller due to the width of the head, but maybe even a little lighter than the 4010 combo.

1) Having owned the 2x12" I never felt like the Marshall combo cabinetry was very robust. WAAAAYYYY less sturdy than vintage Fender stuff. I'd be wary of transporting it without those panels as I feel like they help keep the thing square and protect the tubes.

2) Building a new lightweight pine 1x12" combo cab is a potentially good solution.

3) I think FM Barnicle/Barndog or whatever his name currently is on here has a 4010 he was thinking about selling last I spoke to him.

4) as for sound, I think the head, 2x12, and 1x12 all have a different cap on the midrange and different transformers to purposely make them sound a little different from each other. BUT the 1x12" is still loud as shit.

Yeah I had doubts about that suggestion even typing it mostly because I doubt there's going to be substantial weight-savings to be had anyway for it to be worth it, since those are usually thin plywood anyway. But I would think the front baffle would surely be enough to keep it sturdy and square as those are usually pretty good plywood, no? And if you still needed the weight savings around back, could use some light-weight wire mesh grate to protect the tubes and provide better heat dissipation.

I am with Tommy though that rehousing into separate head/cab would likely be the real weight saver even if it meant two trips (or one in each hand w/ guitar in backpack case for one trip).

Thanks everyone.

I'm touring a in December so have a little time. I could build something lighter but Covid just knocked me out for close to three weeks and I'm pretty behind at work so I don't think that's really an option right now. Was thinking that I'll keep looking for a 1x12 and if I don't see one by November, I'll just order the Neo's.
