Really? The simple clip on ones cost like $14.

13I haven't found the clip on ones work great w/ bass tbh and also I may be rockin' econo but that doesn't mean I need to look like a dork with a chip clip on my bass.

Re: Return of the $1000 Gear Challenge
14^ I see many folks including a tuner in their list.
Certainly it's important to have one, but...
The damn thieves stole a fucking tuner? Have mercy!!

15cell phones have tuners. also you can tune a Fender guitar once at the store and it'll probably stay in tune for the rest of tour.
Re: Return of the $1000 Gear Challenge
16^Yep to all that. Plus, this is all theoretical anyway so I'ma just stick to the fun stuff.
oof.. no one should leave those clipped on for the actual set (which would probably fly off after even modest rocking).tallchris wrote: and also I may be rockin' econo but that doesn't mean I need to look like a dork with a chip clip on my bass.
Re: Return of the $1000 Gear Challenge
17Somebody else in the band has a tuner, I'ma tune by ear at the beginning of the set and go from there.
Re: Return of the $1000 Gear Challenge
18Man when I tune down to Drop C for some chug nugs I don't want people to hear how bad I am at tuning by ear.

Re: Return of the $1000 Gear Challenge
19Bass: something in the $300-350 range. Probably a Squier p-bass but maybe a Yamaha, the 234 I think. Never played an Ibanez Talman but they look functional.
Amp: A $400ish combo. I think there's a Fender Rumble in that range that would work. My car mechanic is an older metalhead who plays bass in an 80s cover band and he just picked up a Bugera combo for cheap and swears it sounds good. I guess for one gig I might bite the bullet.
That should leave me enough $$$ for an Alesis SR-16. I'd have to program that in a hurry.
The rest for cables, picks and beer.
EDIT: I'm gonna need like $50 to get some Chromes. The strings.

Re: Return of the $1000 Gear Challenge
20Squier affinity deluxe - $300
Then I would take a chance on this black star, it’s probably serviceable 100w “Silverline” - $499
Put the extra money into an MXR distortion+
