This reminds me of something that I saw recently in a very small recording setup where the dude had basically built an isolation chamber with mics around a 1x12 cab. Speaker cable comes out of it so you can plug whatever amp into it and its ready to go. It comes with all the limitations that you can imagine, BUT it worked to isolate the guitar from the drums in a very small room.
The next step is to get a small cab ext. for in there so can control the champ from outside. Right now its a pain in the ass to adjust the volume, treble and bass. I have it under my workbench in the garage and I have to crawl under to adjust the knobs. Its basically 4-sided box that I shove against the wall to close it up.

I just bought two of these! They are sleepers for sure.
Most of the stuff is actually pretty good. Have a SC2 Stereo Compressor that use often.

I feel the same about the DBX 166x, 1066, and 1046 quad comps. Completely usable compressors that are dirt cheap that nobody seems to care anything about, which is fine cause you can still buy all those units for under $200 all the time. Nothing special, but they compress.

According to the guy that designed them (Ted Fletcher), the 1/2 rack C2 is the 'best' version of the opto compression circuit that's used in the 2RU stereo joemeek compressors. They don't have the 'slope' function and they sell for about 1/3 the price on the used market, so if you like that sound they're a great pickup for not a lot of money.

The big ones look way cooler.

That 1/2 rack UK made Joe Meek C2 is the only compressor I've ever used. I've had mine for maybe 15 years and it always does what I need it to do. I usually use it during mixing if a vocal needs beefing up or leveling out. Haven't used it much on whole mixes (I tend to be paranoid about creating listening fatigue) but I lent it to a friend for a couple years and he used it on everything; single tracks, whole mix, and loved it. It makes me happy to see these getting some love. For a person who was intimidated by compressors it was an easy entry point. When I reach for it it's usually because I'm trying to solve a problem and it always ends up better after running through the C2.

I think I might try one of those V7X mics, too.

This depends on what kind of setup/situation you have, and might sound overly obvious, but . . . I recently put together three higher quality 15ft cables of the same make. They look and sound identical. Rather than having to futz behind the interface every time I want to record something (a bit of a pain in the ass in this case), I've left all three of them connected to the back of it.

At both ends of each cable, the male and female connectors, I've put the same number of legible dots with a Sharpie marker. So channel one's cable is the one with one dot on each end; channel two's cable is the one with two dots on each end; channel three's cable is the one with three dots on each end. This way, if I want to record something at the drop of a hat, I know right away which cable corresponds to which input and don't have to look back there. Makes tracking easier, ay?
ZzzZzzZzzz . . .

New Novel.

I need this reiteration for the gate alone. Have one in my rig for guitar (They Might be Giants Ana Ng effect) and the earlier version to run synths into.
