noooooooo! I think it was the third which flopped, sir. Second record had "Overkill" which is the best Men At Work tune. It found a second life in the sitcom Scrubs. Yeah, I dug Scrubs and Colin Hay's acoustic rendition of "Overkill" therein.
I stand corrected! I didn’t think I knew this song, so I plugged it into YouTube (49 million views) and instantly recognized it.

I dug scrubs too but mostly for John C. McGinley and the character Elliot. Man, I had a serious crush on her for a bit. I remember that Colin Hay episode though, and that was a good rendition indeed.

My mom listened to a lot of soft rock when I was a kid and I still have a lot of time for it. See: Air Supply

On paper it reads like they'd be right up my alley, but I've never felt the need to go digging. Happened to come across "One More Hour" a few years back and fell in love with it, though. Gorgeous song, especially the outro. Bliss. I ended-up buying a Tame Impala turntable platter for a Secret Santa recipient.

UK perspective:

INXS were big everywhere, they seemed to be able to break that ceiling that alot of bands don't - selling out stadiums worldwide, almost at the level of Depeche or U2.

Birthday Party were more of a cult band, but one of those that seemed to inspire a lot of people. They get namechecked by quite a few other bands/artists. Cave/Bad Seeds have a broader appeal, but not what you would call mainstream.

Men At Work pretty much one hit wonders. It was a big hit and seemed to be around for a while, still gets played on retro shows/stations.

Icehouse had a hit with Hey Little Girl and that was about it. I didn't pay much attention at the time because it fit under the cheesy pop umbrella that I used to dismiss a lot of stuff back then, but I have a DVD set of The Tube (a popular UK music show in the 80's) with them playing live on it and they're honestly a decent band.

Don't think any of the others did much here, at least, not that I remember.

Seby - some stone cold classic Gen X Oz Rock there, it never occurred to me how crazy it was to have such a lot of homegrown talent in the charts. I guess Countdown built a lot of local legends. And then yeah the 90s revival - I guess Spiderbait as well. Shout-out to The Church who persisted through both eras and are still a creative force today.
