The lede of this interview w/ him from last fall is, uh, just a bit too right on I guess.

Evan Dando is squeezing a lot of work out of himself and his band the Lemonheads these days.

Also he's now been hospitalized for mental health issues. Like Ike noted earlier, dude obviously was given all the gifts in the world, and addiction has pretty much squandered all of it (for good now?) for him repeatedly.

I’ve never heard a note of this band outside of that unexceptional cover of Mrs. Robinson, am I missing anything?

ps: oh yeah I guess he sang a song on that Watt tugboat record.

For some reason, he was asked to be one of the singers on the MC5 tour 20 years ago. That's the one and only time I've seen this clown.

He did a show along with a showing of his paintings at Liar's Club in Chicago not too long ago. Everything I see of him live is extremely messy.

Let's say if you have a soft spot for shaggy, 90's power pop they've made a couple excellent records.

reading that interview, his wife is seriously an angel.
that's the best damage control i've ever seen outside of a PR firm, and she's right to be pissed.

They started out as a decent Hüsker Dü tribute band. Hate Your Friends and parts of Creator are good. It got wimpier as the Dando show.

Although I liked the band from around 1988-93 or so, I'm not remotely surprised by this as there have been rumours about him being creepy around certain women - including some underage ones - for some time now.

Very fucked up behavior but I don’t love the public shaming Dando gets. More broadly speaking, I am trying to be more sensitive to people with mental health concerns even when those issues manifest themselves by harming others as a consequence.
