PETA acknowledges in the ad itself that the notice may be offensive to some, but spokesman Bruce Friedrich said the goal is to inspire people to think about what they can do to stop violence against animals.

"We can't do anything to bring Tim back or bring his family relief from their suffering. But all of us can ask what we personally can do to decrease our support for this sort of violence," Freedrick said.

Nothing PETA does surprises me anymore. What a bunch of jerks.

That's what I said to my GF, but she was under the impression the first guy was halfway butchered by the time everyone knew what was going on. Maybe there was a hero or two on board, but there's still 32 terrified people pushing and scrambling to escape. Still, not what I'd like to think I would have done.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that last account. The guy was kneeling on top of that kid in the center aisle of the bus. You'd think somebody would have grabbed him by the wrist or something and tried to take the knife off him.


Yeah, this was my reaction as well. But I've never been in any situation remotely as fucked up as this. I can't say that I would've done anything different.

Also, I did read an account from a witness that said he was trying to get someone to help him take the guy down, but the victim stopped screaming a few seconds after the attack begun and it was probably too late.

It seems a little off and weak that no one helped him, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of my doubt.

Guy was dead well before the beheading, by most accounts.

Another take on this would be that the driver and the guy who helped him managed to get the other thirty passengers off the bus without anybody else being harmed, which in my book is pretty good going when you're in a confined space with a stabbing maniac.

When I posted the story of the father who lost his mind and beat his four year old daughter into a coma by smashing her head against an Italian monument, and the unarmed female cop who was unable to wrestle the father out of doing it, I was told by about five people that I was wrong for suggesting that an armed cop should have and could have terminated the incident.

I'm sure if I posted in this thread that I would have no problem with a well-trained civilian with a carry permit using his gun to stop the beheading, I would be told some anti-gun bullshit here, too.


I was one of those 'reactionary/foaming at the mouth anti-gun nuts' in that thread. In this instance I would argue that if a safe shot could be made when that poor fucker was still alive, it should've been made.

They are very different situations.
