I saw somewhere that Mayor Pete just formally announced his run this weekend, but I thought he'd already been running for a month or something?Anyway, here's what was on his website over the weekend, I guess it's a passage from Finnegans Wake?

This was a painful read for me when it came out.I've posted that exact article in places where folks seemed to want to pin the entirety of Clinton's fate in Wisconsin on voter suppression. You get the online equivalent of folks cupping their hands over their ears and singing La, La, La, La....I mean, it's not nothing. The amount of voter suppression that goes on in this country is staggering and it's generally downplayed or treated like a natural fact. None of this is meant as defense of Clinton's shittiness as a candidate.

FMJB, reading that NYT article this morning affirmed for me that the only worrying anyone need do about the "circular firing squad" or "eat our own" tendencies of Democrats, needs to be done about the snobs in the article, who speak with voices thousands of times louder than any of us. It was gross to read even without the Splinterization.

I m trying to maintain an open mind about œMayor Pete, but more and more it becomes harder to tell the difference between him and, say, John Delaney. I think it has been mentioned upthread, but why isn t Elizabeth Warren getting the same plaudits and oxygen as this 100% milquetoast Dem?Also: œThe matter of What To Do About Bernie and the larger imperative of party unity has, for example, hovered over a series of previously undisclosed Democratic dinners in New York and Washington organized by the longtime party financier Bernard Schwartz. The gatherings have included scores from the moderate or center-left wing of the party, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi; Senator Chuck Schumer, the majority leader; former Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia; Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., himself a presidential candidate; and the president of the Center for American Progress, Neera Tanden

This about sums it up for me too:tmidgett wrote:Past Bernie and Liz, I'm done picking anyone else apart because a) zero chance I pick them in this primary field and b) 100% chance I vote for them if they get the nominationI've donated to 6 candidates so far, anybody that knows me could probably guess who most of them are. Some of them were $1 donations to help qualify them for the debates. It's been substantially more for Sanders and Warren. I have Buttigieg $1.I'm Bernie Sanders as a STRONG first, with Liz Warren in the two slot. The divide between second and third is a huge one, but it's been Mayor Pete for awhile now. Pre-hype. All of the blind Israel support is bothersome to me, as well as even proposing half measures for Medicare for All. The secret meeting of the anti-Sanders club article is disappointing as well, but this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. It's politics. You can't run an insurgent outside campaign and not have this happen. That said: If the nominee was Pete Buttigieg, I would be totally ok with it and could even get excited about it. When it is time for WI to vote, if we are at the point of voting tactically and Sanders and Warren is out, he'll probably have my vote. I don't think that's how this will work. He's very good and has a bright, bright future no matter how it shakes out. Assuming he doesn't become the nominee, hopefully the hype and raised profile could parlay into a statewide run for Senate and Governor. Right now he appears to be the only rising star in Indiana at all, unless i'm missing something. Hell, getting people even remotely familiar with his name is going to be a huge benefit just from this run.If he doesn't get it, he'll be on a lot of VP short lists and cabinet short lists. SUPER not into the Mayor Pete backlash.I'll go ahead and say it: I'm glad he's running.I appreciate the personal stories from pals from SB too.

Oh, fuck, am I sick of liberals foaming at the mouth about this guy. He'll change everything! He cares about everyone! He'll represent all of us! He's gay so he's got to have so much empathy! Jesus, he's a bland center-right neoliberal who is about as plain as American politicians get. He just happens to be gay. Well, who fucking cares who he's married to? People are being blinded by superficial demographics and projecting way too much onto this guy without any real evidence.
