I listened to it a few additional times and realize it’s QotSA they are aping. Kind of has that lumbering rockist groove. I guess from there you can play 6 degrees of seperation from STP. Still no real complaints from me, but will be upset if they’re all straight forward boogie woogie rockers like this.

Like Steve's Aunt Linda and her ideas about meat bees y'all are nuts.
STP b-side
QotSA
Denison’s playing is good but not exactly super inspired
Are we listening to the same song?

Back in ‘91, Goat and those live shows blew open entire neural pathways for me. It’s not really possible for me to grade Hide and Seek fairly but I think this is decent . It’s got great energy and as a few have mentioned it’s gonna be fun live. I feel like that awesome Head/Goat/Liar run, they had a lot of breathing room in their songs, and things got denser with Shot, and I think that’s in part the songwriting and self-editing, and also the recording. Clearly there was magic happening with their FM Steve records and I don’t think it was just “an engineer capturing good sounds and staying out of the way” but also the presence of a friend and musical ally with whom the bar was raised unimaginably high.
