My spouse plays guitar and synth, plays in three bands one of which we are both in, and is still rightfully tired of my gear hoarding bullshit. The synths quickly got stupid, I'm cognizant of that.
Nothing to do with gender roles either, it's a definite "What is this accomplishing?" question of direction and accountability that is healthy in any relationship.
Now that said, I need both hands and feet to count the number of times said spouse has fallen in love with something that was purchased without apparent need.
The gear forums with the whole 'hiding from the wife' ball and chain mentality are hilarious because in probably %90 of those peoples cases, they're the definite problem in the relationship and the 'nagging spouse' is holding the whole family unit together while the ding dong drops thousands on gear to sound like what those guys sound like.
