I’ve got one with a box that does low end rolloff. I only used it for vocals once but its pretty sick with guitar when paired with a condenser. Nothing too crazy, but it sounded like the amp was jumping out of speakers. Takes EQ like any ribbon.

Of course it has to be right up on the motherfucker, but its a fun character mic. I actually need to figure out something on mine because the padding inside the mic box is disintegrating.

Pretty tempted for this Series 1 Neotek, but I'm not sure I can really justify a console anymore given my workflow/work load. But I wants it, precious.

My wife agreed that if we came into a little fuck off money I could get a real console like that, but in return I would have to drive the same shitty car for forever. Which was sweet of her considering I will still be driving the same shitty car no matter what.

I drive a 2011 Honda Fit so same shitty car forever is my way of life. I simply do not have the need for a console anymore. I still have my Allen & Heath sitting on my desk but not having been in a band since pre-pandemic and only recording 1-8 inputs at a time tops makes it a huge paperweight. I have been buffing my outboard preamps and monitoring situation with a MOTU Monitor 8 AVB IO so I can finally get this hunk of metal out of my way. Buying a bigger, heavier hunk of metal just to replace it seems like a future wife fight I don't want to have. FWIW, if you pull all the patch cables the channels of my mixer normal direct to the first 16 of my IO and the DAW returns to a Stereo fader for monitoring. Heather can just walk in and use it like a big Tascam Porta-Studio if she wants to record something and doesn't have to know how all the rest of my absurd routing and patching works to just make music. Worth keeping just for that. Also my 4 and 2 track reel to reel normal to it too so if I want to use those, I don't have to patch shit. I wish I had more space. I'd buy it.

I get the joke and I live it somewhat. I think the distinction is the very legitimate consideration of your partner in a shared space and financial situation versus projecting resentment toward your henpecking spouse who's a foil to your midlife crisis.

My spouse plays guitar and synth, plays in three bands one of which we are both in, and is still rightfully tired of my gear hoarding bullshit. The synths quickly got stupid, I'm cognizant of that.
Nothing to do with gender roles either, it's a definite "What is this accomplishing?" question of direction and accountability that is healthy in any relationship.
Now that said, I need both hands and feet to count the number of times said spouse has fallen in love with something that was purchased without apparent need.



The gear forums with the whole 'hiding from the wife' ball and chain mentality are hilarious because in probably %90 of those peoples cases, they're the definite problem in the relationship and the 'nagging spouse' is holding the whole family unit together while the ding dong drops thousands on gear to sound like what those guys sound like.
