What did Robert Smith/The Cure do about the low E on the Bass VI? Or other bands that use them extensively? Are they usually not in E-E, or is there a good solution that is one weird trick that would shock us if we knew?llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Thu Feb 19, 2026 11:41 am The low E on a Bass VI can sound kinda shitty which can be cool, but can also cause an unusable amount of mud without definition depending on where you’re at on the neck and the amp you’re playing through.
He got his own Ultracure VI, thereby cementing himself as the coolest guy with the least cool signature guitarjirbling rake wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 4:54 pmWhat did Robert Smith/The Cure do about the low E on the Bass VI? Thanks for making me laugh out loud. You're right. Maybe it was someone here who said that only Robert Smith can play that guitar, since it looks ridiculous on anyone else.TylerDeadPine wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 6:47 pmHe got his own Ultracure VI, thereby cementing himself as the coolest guy with the least cool signature guitarjirbling rake wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 4:54 pm

Man its weird and confusing how they decided to do this. The Squier Bass VI comes stock with .024-.084 gauge set and the Vintera comes stock with a .024-.100 gauge set. The Squier gauges are inexcusable. The Vintera ones are much better. Also FWIW the LaBella sets that everyone loves for Bass VI all have a .095 low E.matttkkkk wrote: Sat Feb 21, 2026 2:08 am I think if you bump the low E to .100 or .105 the problems resolve, altho it’s not quite as guitar-y to play. But some of the standard sets have a .085 low E which gets flappy very quickly.
