I still don't understand why someone then didn't run crosby, not to hurt him, but let them know that there are consequences to hitting your best player. later, malkin went around slew footing a bunch of people. rangers need to target gonchar with heavy hits. that'll put a dent in that power play. Malkin is also another player they need to put some hits on.

I don't condone running your stars, but still, Jagr is 6'3", 245. I think he can handle being hit. And like they're the only team that does it. And if you want to retaliate for the Jagr hit, you retaliate against Orpik, not Crosby. That's what the enforcers are out there for.

"A bunch of people" = Paul Mara.

Kind of rich hearing a Flyers fan berating other teams for dirty play.

detroit seems to embody everything that is right with the nhl whereas pittsburgh is one of the clear examples of what's wrong.

the league protecting the franchise

How so? And if the league did do something to keep them from moving or folding, isn't that a good thing anyway? Or would you rather have seen them fold or move because that would be only fair to Quebec, Winnipeg and Hartford?

the questionable awarding of high draft picks

So you're insinuating that the draft lottery is fixed. And by extension, the regular season standings. Yes, the league saw to it that the Pens were basement dwellers for years on purpose, to set them up for a dynasty later. And if it was fixed, Ovechkin would be a Penguin right now too. Unless that's what "They" want you to think. Paging Rick Reuben to thread.

the ownership threatening to move/sell etc

You'll get no argument from me that the the saga of Pittsburgh ownership has been fraught with crap, but I'll point out that Mario Lemeiux bought the Penguins in 1999 to keep them in Pittsburgh, and they turned down free rent from the new arena in Kansas City to stay in Pittsburgh.

blackmailing the state to get a new stadium

I believe the Wachovia Center was funded in part by the state as well, yes? And would the Flyers have stayed in Philly if they didn't get a new arena?

the pro pittsburgh officiating.

You keep going on about this, you got proof?

It must be a Pittsburgh thing, as everybody knows the NFL officials awarded the Steelers the Super Bowl as well.

detroit however, builds through low draft picks, (datsyuk, zetterberg, holmstrom) has players who play for entire careers for them

Who else did Lemeiux play for?

is an original 6 team

By this criteria, you should have been rooting for the Habs over the expansion Flyers.

and play in a non corporate branded rink.

are you really going to keep up this don cherry routine? one moment complain about frenchies wearing visors, then bitch about steve downie punching blake during a fight? If you think the flyers are more dirty than any other team, then you are crazy.

Okay, the draft pick thing is impossible to prove, but it makes you wonder. no, the caps were also the sad sack team in the east and they too needed several high picks in the lottery. from what I saw of backstrom in that series, he's just as good as ovechkin.

the stadium is owned by the flyers/comcast and is usually referenced as being "the house that eric built." spectacor paid for the building, the city/state paid for "infrastructure." It was constructed before the bill that passed that helped the two pennsylvania baseball teams build their stadiums. Honestly, I don't know why comcast/spectacor doesn't just name their building the comcast center.

see today's game. horrible officiating.

I agree. I've watched the whole series and it's disgustingly biased in favor of Gretzky Jr. and the pens. They should have called a Malone high stick (4 minute minor) in the first period. They didn't see that one, but they made sure to call a 4-minute high-stick on Drury with less than 2 minutes left in regulation. Bullshit.

Overtime--holding breath.

i concur

as much as I hate to say it, go Wings! or if somehow the Sharks come all the way back in their series, go Sharks!

i can't think of two teams I hate more than the Penguids and the Flyers. Flyers shouldn't have even been in the second round. I'm disgusted with the the sorry play of the Canadiens, made the Flyers look like a decent team.
