The critical steps in guitar finishing that are “let dry for X weeks” are what would kill me. I’d either rush it or abandon the project entirely
Been there done that! It’s kind of amazing how much easier it is when you procrastinate.

This is interesting. The point is basically to have something that looks old/used without a relic job? Like the top coat has yellowed a bit but it’s been worn through in spots and you can see the un-yellowed original?
Exactly. I pinched the idea from somewhere, can’t recall now. Mainly because I don’t have access to tinted lacquer.

Yeah I finish all of mine with tru-oil, supposed to give it a month to cure. At the start of that I think "a MONTH?!?? But I'm an American, I want it NOOOOOWWW" and then invariably get busy with something else and the neck/body just hangs there for 6 weeks or more. Every time.
matttkkkk thanks for the rundown on the paint! Makes me wanna give it a try. I've been doubtful of getting decent results, and most DIY paint jobs I've seen online don't look very good, even from people who clearly know what they're doing, but yours really looks nice.

Just repainted my (already repainted) 1967 Mory Jazzmaster copy in white (originally bought in wrecked sunburst from previous FM sleepkid). It still plays sensationally well.
damn, that is nice.

Never cared much for the Mockingbird style, but I could get probably get behind this if
this one doesn’t feel like a sticky-finished music-store Schecter. Maybe better suited to the Australians with that shipping fee though.

Yes it absolutely is. I wish people would stop making 30 versions of a Tele or some stupid Explorer knockoff and make cool ass guitars based on Japanese and Italian guitars from the 60's/70's. I guess that St. Vincent guitar is kind like that.
This is fucking rad!

That guitar is beautiful yet looks like it is one unreliable part away from madness.
I mean that's true for all quirky Japanese guitars from the. 60s-80s, but this is a 1990s build for Shonen Knife, and as long as the neck is good like they claim then it's probably better than most Teisco type jawns.
Yeah, this one looks pretty solid.

Hardly bizarre, but it's 50 years old and all original. Cheap because the neck is close to a backbow, but I have plans.

Bit late but... VERY nice job on that Mory!!!
This passed thru recently: real early mid to late 50s Teisco EP-11
Has a neck on it like a Rugby prop's thigh but plays like butter (well very old butter) due to somebodies attention to the neck and frets in the past.
These are superb pickups too. (Glen Campbell did not object).

At least this one fits the thread title. Picked this up cheaply and spent an entire day drilling out rusted screws, rewiring etc to bring it back to life. It actually plays well and sounds good! Never heard of this brand and the internet is unhelpful too.
