152I refoamed my EV PL 20. haven’t used it in years. it was quite messy, now everything’s fine.
I also built another Zellweger MLV10 mic preamp from the units I bought years ago. I’m using the original (huge) in- and output transformers with new PCB’s and new parts.
thought I’ll make this one a tabletop unit.

I had to do this to mine a few
years back and the foam had turned into a sticky tar that got EVERYWHERE. Almost completely a thick liquid. I had to alcohol bath everything and even carefully brush the diaphragm with a alcohol/water solution to get it all off. Mic has never quite been the same. It is fine at moderate level but if you hit it hard it has a slight little ratty buzz. It's annoying, so I almost never use it anymore.

155When I repaired mine I followed a video where a guy explained the whole process. Obviously on some of these mics the capsule is no longer centered. You can repair that as well but it looked pretty tricky. 157If you want to get it fixed, maybe reach out to Cole Picks Vintage? I think he said it was around $150 to service a ribbon mic (depending on what it needed) so I imagine his prices for dynamics are fair too.

158The re/pl 20 has a dome shaped thing under the diaphragm that will eventually come unglued…and becomes a baby rattle, not a trivial repair. The diaphragm has to be detached; delicate coil break-out leads unsoldered strategic and judicious heat administered to soften adhesive…the diaphragm is delicate and will be easily deformed.
