Dell/Microsoft replacing the right side CTRL key on laptops with a fucking Copilot launcher key. I got a new work computer and for a couple minutes I was wondering why the hell Copilot kept popping up.

It took a little while but I figured out how to remap it to functioning as CTRL, thank God, but fuck off Microsoft. Nobody normal wants this goddamn AI dogshit.

Thankfully I'll be moving to another team and getting issued a Mac soon, ready to ditch the MS world forever (ok, I'll still use VSCode, which is pretty good).

You're counting on Apple to not force you to do thing their way? They've always been on the bleeding edge of every regressive tendency in technology from a single mouse button to removing my 1/4' audio. It's bad enough they do it, but every lazy copycat soon follows suit. I mean it's literally two button presses of the command button instead of just one to get to "SIRI's Apple Intelligence" bullshit.

Every Apple mouse and trackpad in the last 20 years has had at least two-button capability, fyi

I'm not counting on that from Apple, no, but I much prefer Macs for my work and find them generally less annoying. I agree with everything you pointed out, but I still do think they make decent machines despite their record of terrible product decisions. Everything is shit but I guess they at least made it two button presses instead of one. Low bar.

Well I don't think I've bought an Apple device in 25 years, but I think you're missing my point concerning the enshitification of my input/output devices, and in this respect they've made their mouse even worse with ZERO fucking buttons. Give me the vestigial IBM red clit button any day over this crap.

Don't disagree, they've generally had nice builds and screens over the years.

I think the kind of advantage with Apple (for now and low bar) has been their product over data business model. They tout their privacy credentials a lot. I’m sure they’re using all our data but they claim not in the same way as other big tech, where you’re the product.

That model could be collapsing but I’m glad Apple never got into search or social media.

Removing the headphone jack - while annoying - was a service and performance improvement to the machine itself. IMO The mistake was thinking bluetooth was a suitable replacement which is it most certainly not, and was even worse when they made the decision. Bluetooth is a shitty technology.

A co pilot button in place of cmd is very uncool.

Are there other options to Bluetooth? I assume the fidelity is terrible… but if I’m listening to something on a phone I’m not expecting an audiophile experience. Maybe I should. Apple do make a big deal of the quality of Apple Music.
