You're right. Sex with a child is a million times worse than killing someone.

Yeah, no. That's hysterical nonsense.

I'm glad the pervs don't see it that way, or they could "downgrade" their crimes pretty easily and we'd have a lot of dead children on our hands.

Killing somebody tops everything.

So, someone who has sex with a six-year old is less culpable than someone who kills a rival drug dealer or shoots the guy banging his wife?

I heartily disagree.

Well, I remember a well-publicized case where a gangster was trying to avoid a conviction on some charge, so he got the FBI to do a sting on a woman who had supposedly expressed an interest in having her husband killed. Apparently, before the meeting for the contract payment took place, she called the guy and said she didn't want to go through with it. The police had the guy on tape, verbally threatening her against backing out of the deal. When they finally met, she was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, despite the fact that she had attempted to back out of the deal and didn't even bring the money to the meeting.

Nevertheless, she was convicted and imprisoned and the 'hitman' felon (who'd already served a sentence for murder once before) went free.

But, like I said, murder is a far cry from soliciting sex from a teenager.

What I'm trying to get at is that the police do these kinds of stings to get as many convictions as they can, without having to endanger themselves or mess around doing real police work and going after real criminals. It looks good on the police blotter and in the prosecutors' record regardless of the actual facts of the individual cases. If some innocent people who wouldn't otherwise have ever been involved in such activity get caught up in these stings, who cares? Nobody's going to rush to the defense of an accused pedophile anyway.

Until I see some statistics that show "Internet predators" pose a potent, significant threat to innocent children, I am not going to support this kind of activity.

Deciding the value of the life of the murdered is for a civil court or during sentencing, not the criminal code.

You realize that this whole scenario plays out this way because the cops pretend to be willing kids, right? That if there wasn't a "willing" "kid" there, then none of this would be happening, right? They create crimes in order to arrest people, they do not stop crimes from happening.

You seem to presume that all this goes on all the time anyway, then okay, do some policework, find those situations and interrupt them. That might actually be stopping a crime. This bullshit is just arresting people.

Maybe they have a mailing list where you can send cards and letters to the wrongly accused innocent men who troll chat sites for children to fuck all day long.

Panic, if you had a kid would you feel comfortable with allowing them to be on internet chat sites all the time?

Simple yes or no.
