Go and see a football match (or soccer you may call it). Even if you're not into football (which I'm not). I went to see Riverplate play a completely unimportant friendly match but the atmosphere was like being at a world cup match. I can't fathom what it'd be like at a real actual world cup match. The crowd chants were so sophisticated too. I swear everyone in that country has a perfect sense of rhythm. Fun.

Very nice places at around $300 a week. You will probably pay much more for a hotel around Recoleta. It's nice to have your own kitchen for a longer stay anywhere.

If you are of a smaller build, bring some money to drop on clothes. Or have some shit made.

There are literally hundreds of apartment rental agencies for temporary
places in BA. There's also craigslist. Not to sound obvious, but if you do a google search for 'buenos aires apartments' and the like, you'll come across more sites than you can go thru in a day probably. It pays to take your time and shop around. I had some friends who recently rented a place in Palermo for 800 USD/wk and it was nice, but the place was still being lived when they got there...there were some other problems as well. My point is, the research you put into it will be worth it.

Inflation is in strong effect and the value of the dollar has dropped a bit, but you should be able to find a decent place in Recoleta in or slightly above the range Itchy Mc mentioned above. Depends how much 'luxury' you want.

Check out places in Almagro/Once/Balvanera/Congreso as well. They don't carry the same tourbook cache, but they are close enough to Recoleta that it shouldn't make a huge difference and they will def. be cheaper.

To these excellent recommendations, I would add a trip to Uruguay. If you wish to just have a day trip, Colonia del Sacramento is very pleasant. If you can spare a couple of days, Montevideo is also an option; I didn't have the time for the longer journey when I was in Buenos Aires, which I regret. I'm pretty sure that you can get to both from the ferry terminal in the centre of BA.
