danmohr wrote:$350 is pretty steep considering you can get the Mesa Boogies (which are essentially the same) for $200 and change.

$200 is pretty damn cheap, considering a brand new 400W 15" EV speaker sells for $150 all by itself. And there are folks who might assert that the old ones are better than the new ones.

Does anyone happen to know if the EVM15L was ever available WITHOUT the concentric rings on the cone? From what I've seen in pictures, the EVM15B is the speaker that has a "plain" paper cone (without the concentric, raised circles).

Thanks

I know the plans for the 1x15" have already been posted on this thread, but in case anyone's interested, the actual EV plans for the 1x18", 1x15" and 1x12" cabs are for sale on eBay right now, going for dirt cheap though there's still plenty of time for that to change. In case anybody wants paper copies

i have mesa boogie cabs that are the same basic design as the dietz cabs. same porting, etc. it's a stock thiele/small design.

the speakers mount from the front, and they are mounted with fuckin' wood screws, which means you have to put t-nuts in. but they sound swell.

tim- i have a single dietz 15" cabinet that i love (bought it for $100 from bobby donne of breadwinner/labradford a few years ago) and i would like to have another 15" cab with the EVM-15L 400W speaker in it, perhaps like the mesa you mention. are these new cabinets or something that isn't made anymore? do you have a link/model number or anything I could reference?

i'd make a dietz replica, if i had the tools and the time.. but at this point, i would be happy to have a 2 cab 1x15 set up with one dietz and something else just as good, not too worried about any aesthetic/visual mismatch of dietz/mesa though..

any recommendations? i can't bring myself to like the clunky 1X15 offerings by ampeg, swr, etc.. i especially don't need a horn and an aluminum tweeter.

obviously the new orange obc115 bass cabinet is very similar to the tl606. not cheap, especially if you want to buy an additional ev speaker as replacement for the eminence kappa used in that cabinet. has anybody played one yet?

just a 100W speaker, but one of the greatest sounding. this cab would make a great recording cabinet - and look at the price...

Is $450 a good price for a professionally built Dietz cabinet new with a re-coned EVM15?

I would love to build my own if I could get the wood price and speaker price to jive. Perhaps I have missed the obvious, but I have yet to find a detailed set of drawings/plans for the build. Thanks for the advice on Mesa Boogie.
