You know, I'm really digging flatwounds these days.
If you like a bassy tone, they do it well.
The come out of the package dead, so you really don't need to change them until they break.

Pretty much everything up until 1968 was recorded with them because roundwounds weren't that common.

In modern times, however, they have their place. Those, with a split pickup, pumping through a 15 driven with any amp with a pre-gain.

flats do have their place. and when i'm into that sound, i'm into it. one day i'll have two basses again so i can have one w/ flats and one w/ stainless rounds.


john entwistle of the who can be seen using danelectro's in very early who performances b/c it was the only place to get roundwound strings. on those basses.

Yuh. He went through several just to get My Generation right. He'd break a string and they'd have to buy a new bass.

I always put a new set on before a show. It's good to know folks in the music biz.
