And even though it's a cliche, the opening scene in Star Wars is pretty fucking great in all aspects.

okay, here's one for real -- it's a bit obvious but who cares -- Touch of Evil by Orson Wells (sp). haven't seen it several years but i remember thinking, "That's one hell of an entrance."

not my favorite, but definitely an unrivaled opening scene.

You are correct. You win. Please note there are NO EDITS during that whole sequence.

I don't care what 3rd rate French film someone else pulls out of their ass, this is the correct answer for this question.

not sure what you mean by "3rd rate French film" (Baise Moi, perhaps? no, that's 8th rate), but, yeah, i agree. hard to top that beginning.

The opening of C.C. and Company, starring Joe Namath. Joe plays CC Ryder. He's a motorcycle rebel! It begins, he is walking through the aisles of a grocery store, picking up the contents of a huge sandwich he proceeds to build and eat as he walks through the store. Then he totally caps it off blockbuster style, he walks up to a stockboy and asks where the twinkies are. Then he goes to these twinkies and takes one from a box and eats it. Right there in the store! Joe Namath!

More funny you misspelled it twice...Just kidding!

I love Touch Of Evil...I gotta watch that again....

There's another great movie no one has seen called "Blood And Lace" that begins with a killer's eye view of a hammer murder. That is my second choice, and I'm sticking to it...

I have to go with Raising Arizona. The vignette at the beginning that leads up to the opening credits is amazing.

Honorable mention goes to Goodfellas.

Edward and Earwicker got a few that I hadn't even thought of: Raising Arizona, Saving Private Ryan, and Full Metal Jacket are all excellent.

Despite not liking shoot'em-up cop movies much, my first impulse is to answer Heat. Like Saving Private Ryan, in a theater with great sound, the gunfire makes ones balls shake. Maybe for a comedy, I'll go with Slap Shot or Quick Change.

This is the sort of thread that I'll post to, and then I'll have about 10 more things to say in about 5 minutes.
