They sound like an opening band I'd watch for 5 minutes before deciding they sounded like 20 other bands and then going in to the other room so I could talk to someone without bothering the 3 friends of theirs in the crowd who came out to see them. They're not very dynamic or agressive, which is what I expected after seeing their name pop up in threads next to table.

Lynx's record is very tame and friendly compared to their live shows.
It's like they forgot to turn their amps up, or didn't use any room mics.

They were, in fact, quite incredible live. You have the 3-song EP? Does it have a song called "nighthush" on it?

I would very much like to get a copy of this song, as I think that that was on my list of favorites of theirs, and they didn't record it for the record.

What were the other two?

Dunno if anyone has seen or heard Volto Do Mar, but I happened to catch them twice some years back and they were incredible. I have never heard a record.

Also: Oxes.
It's like you put everything into a bottle inside itself.

I have some doubts about that acoustic album though, but still curious to hear the result.

Anyone heard it???

Yes. It's ok.

in regards to a few bands mentioned in this thread:

1. tetsuo was incredible, but i'm not sure if you'd be able to track down any of their stuff - however, the brass knuckles for tough guys album is pretty easy to find

2. lynx was really a fantastic live band. their drummer was a fucking maniac. that 3 song ep is pretty weak, but they later recorded a full length with bob weston that sounds much more exciting. still kind of generic math rock on cd, but the drumming is so powerful, it makes up for it.

3. ilium ended after that paint by numbers cd. i know that their drummer chris moved to boston to go to school...as of a few years ago, he was back in chicago, but i have not seen him turn up in any new acts

4. volta do mar were awful. it was the equivilent of watching four guys play arpeggios for about 30 minutes. before them they had Hashbrown, which at times was kind of exciting math rock, at times sounded like Primus. some of them went on to form American Draft whom i saw once and opened with an amazing cover of Orion by Metallica.
